First off, sorry about the long delay on the Gigs listing. We have been turned upside down by Katrina. We are back home, living in the house and making do with the everyday hardships of living in New Orleans. We are very lucky that we have a home to come back to and will be up and running very soon.
There are some very nice recordings I have been working on that are now available. This past summer I was on a tour throughout the Northeast with The Susan Cowsill Band, opening shows for Hootie & the Blowfish. I'm very happy to be on her fantastic new release Just Believe It (on Blue Corn Music) and available on the Web or in stores.
In January 2005, I was in the studio recording with the Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars with Tab Benoit, Dr. John, Cyril Neville, Anders Osborne, George Porter, Jr., Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Johnny Vidacovich, and Waylon Thibodeaux. The CD was to be released October 1st at the Wetlands Festival in Homa, Louisiana, but because of the big storm, we ended up doing a seven-show tour out in Colorado that was an incredible experience. This is a really great CD with some beautiful song writing about what can happen (or did happen) if we don't try and save the wetlands of South Louisiana. Called Voice of the Wetlands, it is available at RYKODISC.
And finally, the session that we did in Santiago, Cuba, has been released! This is an incredible CD from Jane Bunnett called Radio Guantanamo on EMI Canada, available on the Web and soon to be released in the US. I was honored to be a special guest, along with jazz legends Dewey Redman and Howard Johnson . It includes two of my songs, along with one called Nueva Orleans Bajo Agua (New Orleans Under Water) that we co-wrote together while I was in Toronto and Hurricane Katrina was hitting New Orleans,
I have also been in Dockside Studios just outside of Lafayette, Lousiana, working on my next project that I hope to have released in the spring or early summer. It will feature all new songs and lots of surprise guests.
I will be touring Europe in July with the "Super Harmonica Blues" featuring Lynwood Slim and Brian Templeton. And I will be touring with Jane Bunnett in August, playing songs from Radio Guantanamo. And of course I will be touring with my band. So keep an eye on the Gig's page and hope to see you out there. Johnny
