WATERMELON PATCH
She was selling melons on the side of the road
Standin’ by a sign that said "Melon Ice Cold"
Now I was headin’ south in my old Ford truck
I was a-rollin’ down the highway on my last five bucks
I pulled over and stepped outside
I kicked off the dust and I wiped my eyes
I pulled a pack of smokes from outta my shirt
I said, "Pardon me, baby, but I’m lookin’ for work"
She said, "We can use you as long as you drive
And you don’t mind workin’ from eight to five"
"Yeah, that’s fine, baby. When do I start?"
She said, "In a couple hours, right around dark"
Well the sky was dark and the air was heavy
Sittin’ on the back seat on top of the levee
She said I didn't bring you here to fall in love
I just brought you here to have a little fun
This is a place we come when the day is done
After pickin’ watermelons in the hot, hot sun
I can just see her and me gettin’ attached
Runnin’ with the woman through the watermelon patch
Pullin’ down the highway, rollin’ slow
Vicksburg, on up to Tupelo
Well I’m haulin’ them melons and I’m takin’ my time
You know my back’s a little sore but I feel fine
‘Cause there’s a full moon shining’ on the levee tonight
Near the watermelon patch in the Mississippi moonlight
Well I made my little money then I left that town
Back on the road, Louisiana bound
Every now and then on a hot summer night
I think about the girl in the Mississippi moonlight
I can just see her and me getting’ attached
Runnin’ with the woman through the watermelon patch

LOOK AT US NOW
This is such a small place babe, in our little world
We’re looking face to face, behind all these closed doors
And our world kept turning, I love you more and more
But no one could see, what you meant to me
Look at us now, baby look at us now
We would climb so high, never see the ground
We’d be floating in the clouds baby, and never look down
‘Cause we stood tall, never worried about the fall
But look at us now, baby look at us now
I wish that I could tell you, there’ll never be nobody else
The only thing that you can say, is try and take care of yourself
It was a raging fire, that would keep us so warm
But it turned out, to be a freezing storm
And you know that it chilled me, right down to my bones
But look at us now, baby look at us now

COMIN' FOR SURE
If I had it, would you let me share it with you?
If you felt it, would you give it back to me too?
If you used it baby, honey would you know what it was?
Do you think it’s something, we can share between us?
Don’t make me say it, I spoke these words before
If we don’t push it baby, I know that it’s comin’ for sure
And if we got it right, would you know what it was for?
And if it felt good to you baby, would you want some more?
We’d have to stay close to it, and never let it get away
We’d have to take care of it, so we would always stay
Don’t make me say it, I spoke these words before
If we don’t push it baby, I know that it’s comin’ for sure
Maybe it tried to reach you, some place in your past
But it slipped away, ‘cause it was movin’ too fast
See, I got a good feelin’, about taking it slow
Sittin’ back honey, baby watchin’ it grow
It's comin'
It's comin', baby

MON FLEUR
Hey hey hey hey, hey hey hey hey
Hey hey hey hey, hey hey hey hey
Hey mon fleur, hey mon fleur
You flower baby, only bloom at night
Hey mon fleur, I love you too
Here come the sun, honey, where are you?
All night long, drinkin’ alcohol
But look in the mirror baby, no reflection at all
But look in her eyes, and they hypnotize
And I betcha can tell, I’m under her spell
Spent one night, and I’m not the same
I’ll see you tonight, and I’m not ashamed
All night long, can’t do no wrong
Here come the sun baby, honey, you’re gone

THE BRIDGE
There’s a place I can go to
Stuck in time
Still there long after you’ve gone
I can ease my mind
And see you sometimes
Though the reflection doesn’t last too long
I came from my side
And you came from yours
And in middle I would find
Something I’ve never known before
You taught me how to be kind
And helped me to unwind
‘Cause you were always so calm and positive
There was time
I didn’t know right from wrong
Before I met you
On the bridge over Bayou St. John
After all I’ve been through
I’ve always tried to do
The very best that I could
And after all the things I did
I know it’s not easy to be a kid
Tryin’ to grow up in this neighborhood
It’s hard when you have no one to look up to
And there’s no one to show you the way
I still wonder
What would have happened to me
If I hadn’t a met you that day
On the bridge over Bayou St. John
There was a time
I didn’t know right from wrong
Before I met you
On the bridge over Bayou St. John

CIVILIZED CITY
Check out on the posse
Runnin’ down on the gang
They’re shootin’ up the streets
All over again
They’re gonna settle that score
Man, find out who’s the best
And I believe this civilized city
Has regressed back to the Wild West
Yeah, they’re ridin’ into town
Start shootin’ up the place
Lawman’s afraid
To even show his face
He’s got a full jail already
He’s not worried about the rest
Yeah, I think this civilized city
Has regressed back to the Wild West
Still the same old story
To fight over territory
Don’t get in the way, man
Or you're gonna be sorry
When the smoke clears
We gonna come out and clean up yo’ mess
And I believe this civilized city
Has regressed back to the Wild West

LOVELINE
Standin’ in line’s alright sometimes
If it’s the only way to get what you need
When you’re in line it can seem like forever
You know what I mean
But I’m holdin’ on to this good feelin’
Man, I’ve got nothin’ but time
And I’d wait forever if that’s what it takes
To make you mine, yes indeed
Now I’m not the kind to move aside
Once I’ve made up my mind
I’m standin’ right here
In this loveline
Light my fuse and I’m ready to burn
But honey I’m willin’ to wait my turn
I’m in line and I’m waitin’ on time
So come on baby and show me a sign
I know people been starin’ at me
I’m gonna get there honey eventually
Now I won’t give up and move aside
I’m gonna get to you this time
I’m standin’ right here
In this loveline, baby
Loveline
True true love worth waitin’ for
And when you find it then you know for sure
So I’ll stand right here patiently
And at the end of the line
I hope you’ll see
I’m not the kind to move aside
Once I’ve made up my mind
I’m standin’ right here
In this loveline, baby
Standin’ in the loveline

UPSIDE OF LOW DOWN
Well baby you asked me, I guess I gotta tell you the truth
I been out here runnin’, jumpin’ through all these hoops
Sounds like a lot of fun baby, but it’s not an easy way to go
But since you asked me, I guess I better tell you so
Yes, I miss you, runnin’ from town to town
These people depend on me, and I don't wanna let them down
Look for a letter Monday, or a postcard from the next town
I’m workin’ my way, upside of low down
Two thousand miles between me and you, I got my eyes on the road
Wish it was in your direction, and I was headin’ on back home
But I’m headin’ north, and the road is covered in snow
And since you asked me, I guess I better tell you so
Yes, I miss you, runnin’ from town to town
These people depend on me, and I’m not gonna let ‘em down
Look for a letter Monday, or a postcard from the next town
I’m workin’ my way, upside of low down
I don’t want my job, to come between me and you
And there’s a whole lot of other things, I wish that I could do
But here I am again, puttin’ on another show
And since you asked me, I guess I’m gonna let you know
Yes, I miss you, runnin’ from town to town
These people depend on me, and I don’t wanna let ‘em down
Look for a letter Monday, or a postcard from the next town
‘Cause I’m workin’ my way, up side of low down

NEUTRAL GROUND
It was Indian Summer
Music floated on the water
Coming from the speakers
Off your little radio
And it sounded like a message
From someone you used to know
He left you without warning
Spinning out of control
See, I know you better
Or at least just as good
As anybody you ever known
Ever could
Now the sun’s going down
But the colors remain
Just like your heart answers
That sad refrain
The best part for me
Is landing on your feet
On this neutral ground
On this neutral ground
Now I have a memory
Of burning desire
A heart that was on fire
Soul that didn’t know how to put it out
We’re running by the highway
In a beat up old van
Trying to speak in a language
Nobody seemed to understand
See I wanted to know better
At least just as good
As anybody you ever known
Ever could
Now the message has changed
But the feeling’s the same
Just like your heart answers
That sad refrain
The best part for me
Is landing on your feet
On this neutral ground
Now there’s two roads running
One behind and one up ahead
Now I’m standing right here
In the middle instead
See, I read all the signs along the way
And I obeyed all the rules okay
And I’m hoping that a compromise
Might be a big surprise
Now the sun’s going down
But the colors remain
Just like your heart answers
That sad refrain
So the best part for me
Is landing on your feet
On this neutral ground

ANYTHING, ANYTIME
Maybe I'm crazy, yes I'm a fool
Jumpin' on a table top, well I'm breakin' all the rules
Spendin' this money, that I ain't got
So let me tell you honey, well you put me on the spot
'Cause I'd do anything, just to see you smile
Maybe I'm foolin' you, all the while
But if you need me, well I'm right on time
'Cause I'd do anything for you, anytime
A rooster is crowin', out across that fence
Wake me in the morning, well I must confess
I miss you sometimes, since you been gone
And there's one thing, you knew all along
I'd do anything, just to see you smile
Maybe I'm foolin' you, all the while
But if you need me, well I'm right on time
'Cause I'd do anything for you, anytime
Did I say that I love you? Yeah I guess I did
I was so wild then, you was just a kid
Things have changed, that was long ago
And there's one thing, I bet you'll always know
That I'd do anything, just to see you smile
Maybe I'm foolin' you, all the while
But if you need me, well I'm right on time
'Cause I'd do anything for you, anytime
'Cause I'd do anything for you, anytime

YOUR KIND OF LOVE
The grass is always greener
Over on the other side
And I know you loved me, baby
Or at least I know you tried
I didn't have to hold you,
But I could not let you go
And I learned a lesson,
Baby, now I know about your kind of love
Your kind of love
I spent my time wondering
Just what I was going to do
And I did my very best
To forget all about you
Now you take what you got, baby,
and you leave the rest behind
And with a little bit of time,
I know you're going to find your kind of love
Your kind of love
I've got a brand new girl
And she love me all she can
And when I think about her
I feel like a brand new man
I won't try to keep her
If she don't want to stay
I done learned my lesson
And I changed my way from your kind of love
Your kind of love
The grass is always greener
Over on the other side
I know you loved me baby
Or at least I know you tried
I didn't have to hold you
But I could not let you go
And I learned a lesson from you baby
And now I know about your kind of love
Your kind of love
Your kind of love

SWEET BABY
Sweet baby
You know, no one can love you like I do
I can prove it
I'm gonna stay here long with you
So I can kiss you
I can't resist you
'Cause I lost my head over you
Did you mean it
When you told me that you loved me so
Do I like it
Better believe I'm gonna let you know
Don't kid me baby
Tell me one more time
'Cause baby ain't you glad you're mine
Does it feel good
When I hold you in my lovin' arms
Why do you tremble
When I've given up all my charm
Come hold me baby
'Cause you're my one desire
You know you set my soul on fire
Did you see me
Dancing close to that beautiful girl
Are you jealous
Bet you're the maddest woman in this world
Don't worry baby
'Cause I'd do nothing at all
That would cause your teardrops to fall

CRAWFISH WALK
You got me walkin' like a crawfish
Backwards into a hole
You don't care about me
You sho' don't love me no mo'
I do the crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
You got me hot under the collar
I'm startin' to turn all red
You're out foolin' 'round, all over town
When you should be home in bed
I'm doin' the crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
I try to come up with a reason
Maybe it's just not the season
I don't want to get upset
But I feel like I'm caught up in a net
I'm doin' the crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
I'm beginnin' to boil
You bet I'm gonna be hot
I'm home alone while you're gone
With all o' dem friends you got
I do the crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
And when you finally get home
You'll wonder where I've gone
There's a chance, I turn up to dance
And I'm out on the town too
I'm doin' the crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk
The crawfish walk

DESTINATION UNKNOWN
Let me tell you what we gonna do
I pick you up 'bout a quarter to two
Drivin' out across the bayou state
Talkin' 'bout all the plans we made
We'll get out on old forty-nine
Go see some old friends of mine
Don't you think it's about time
We left all this trouble behind
We'll be dancin' in a cotton field
Sippin' from a paper cup
Wish upon a falling star
Baby watch the sun come up
Follow that river to Memphis
Throw a coin in it just for luck
You can call your friends on the phone
Ask 'em how things are back home
When they ask you where you gone
Well you can tell them
Destination unknown
We'll be dancin' in a cotton field
Sippin' from a paper cup
Wish upon a falling star
Baby watch the sun come up
Follow that river to Memphis
Throw a coin in it just for luck
You can call your friends on the phone
Ask 'em how things are back home
When they ask you where you gone
You can tell them
Destination unknown
Now we can swing out to Texas
Tell me baby how you feel about that
I'll buy you a new pair of boots
Get me a big ol' cowboy hat
We can head off to Chicago
Or head south to Mexico
Anyplace you want to go
Well, baby's alright by me

CRESCENT CITY MOON
See this town from the bottom
Wasting on this river bank
Dreams I once knew
Have been taken away from me
Like this river runs to the sea
I'm living in a shadow
Way down here
Something that I used to be
Now I'm staring down at this muddy water
I'm praying up to the sky
Won't somebody tell me
Tell me why
The only friend I have
Is a Crescent City moon
I never dreamed my friends
Would sell me down the river
And leave me on this muddy bank
When it's all said and done
I can't trust no one
Only have myself to blame
Now I'm staring at this moon to save me
From this river that want to take me away
Won't somebody please help me
Tell me why
The only friend I have
Is a Crescent City moon

UNCLE JOE
I got a letter from Uncle Joe, he moved away a year ago
Way down in Louisiana, somewhere in the bayou
Well he sent me a picture, holdin' up a big catfish
He said "This one pretty big but they come a lot bigger than this"
And he looked so happy, a big smile on his face
Down in Louisiana, sound like a pretty good place
He said "We go fishin' every day and we dance all night
The women like to dance and the fish always bite
In the bayou, way down in Louisiana"
That's what he say, my Uncle Joe
He live some place near the Gulf of Mexico
In the bayou, way down in Louisiana
"I got a lot of friends and they look after me
Seem like everyone I know treat me the same ol' way
We take our time and don't rush through the day
You know the people back home
They could learn a lot livin' this way
We go fishin' every day and we dance all night
The women like to dance and the fish always bite
In the bayou, way down in Louisiana"
That's what he say, my Uncle Joe
He live some place near the Gulf of Mexico
In the bayou, way down in Louisiana
Alright, Joe
"We fishin' every day and we dance all night
The women like to dance and the fish always bite
In the bayou, way down in Louisiana"
That's what he said, my Uncle Joe
He live some place near the Gulf of Mexico
In the bayou, way down in South Louisiana

JUST SAY YES
Baby, just say yes
That you really love me
Is this a game we're playin'
Well how would I know
Don't make me guess
'Cause I don't know
But if you really love me
You better tell me so
If you really love me
You better tell me so
Just want the best
You know I've seen it
Baby you too me
Well, I'm gonna believe it
You know the rest
I don't mind playin'
I just want the rules to the game
So I can play the same
I just want the rules to the game
So I can play the same
Baby, just say yes
That you really love me
Is this a game we're playin'
Well how would I know
Don't make me guess
'Cause I don't know
But if you really love me
You better tell me so
If you really love me
Why don't you let me know
If you really love me
Why don't you let it show
If you really love me, baby
Come on, tell me so

THE TALKIN' IS OVER (THE WALKIN' HAS BEGUN)
She'll be holdin' back emotion, convinced she'll be fine
Out on some highway, she done made up her mind
The door window was open, and now it's closed for good
You can try to find her, but it won't do no good
You wait for her to call, you wait for her to come home
You wait and you wait, but you get nothing at all
You had your fun
Now the talkin' is over, and the walkin' has begun
Maybe it was the money, maybe the time
Maybe you just couldn't make up your mind
It could have been them stories, she never really bought
It wouldn't be a crime if you didn't get caught
Now you're thinkin', did she really leave
I wonder why it's so hard for you to believe
You had your fun
Now the talkin' is over, and the walkin' has begun
She gone buddy-boy, she ain't comin' back
Now you can tell your friends how she came up short
Now you can tell them how you still a good sport
You can feel sorry for the things you did
And wonder how much did you really keep head
You can feel bad you won't see her no mo'
So you try to beg sympathy from the little girl live next door
You had your fun
Now the talkin' is over and the walkin' has begun
I tried to tell you, you didn't listen man

PLEASE, PLEASE ME
Please, please me
Like I please you
Well I can't hold out much longer
Doin' like we're doin'
Now it's a heavy cross to bear
In this crazy love affair
You got to learn to share
Show me that you care
Please, please me
That's what I want you to do
Baby, hold me close like I hold you
Just like we used to do
Now maybe the years have changed us
Maybe it's all in my mind
Maybe I can take it day by day
Baby, don't let me run out of time
I want to make you happy
And I'll try right 'til the end
Well if anybody can do it, baby
You know you know I can
Maybe the years have changed us
Maybe, maybe it's all in my mind
Maybe I can take it day by day
I just don't want to run out of time
Please, please me
Like I please you
You know just what I need
Baby, I know you need it too
A little goes a long way
You don't have to show me everyday
Just hold me close, let me hear you say
Please, please me
